This is ColorFabb's flagship line of 3d printing materials - a PLA/PHA blend that is completely biodegradable, and less brittle than regular PLA filament. If you're unfamiliar with ColorFabb - a Netherlands based manufacturer of supreme filament - rest assured this is some of the highest quality filament you will ever print with. Printer Playground wholeheartedly recommends you try some - you'll never want to go back to the cheaper stuff.
Besides the perfect print quality, finish and ease of printing, the greatest aspect of Colorfabb Filament is their vast selection of vibrant colors. Beautiful, delicious color. Each one has its own place, and will bring your prints to life!
Colorfabb's PLA/PHA has a slightly textured finish when it's spooled up, unlike most other PLA, which is completely smooth and shiny. This PLA/PHA has a nice matte look to it, which we really enjoy. Plus the prints end up looking more solid than with other PLAs.
We're really impressed with ColorFabb's quality control. The diameter tolerance (how thin or thick the filament is compared to what it's measured and sold as) is very accurate. Measurements are very consistent - generally less than 0.05mm off from 1.75mm or 2.85mm, depending, of course, on the filament specification. Filament is measured over 1000 times per second at the ColorFabb in-house testing facility. All printing filaments are made in their own facility in the Netherlands; they are never outsourced. Almost instantly, the spools of ColorFabb 3d printing filament are sealed in an airtight wrapper, and placed in a cardboard box that is then subsequently wrapped as well, ensuring that your filament is fresh and ready for printing everytime.
The ColorFabb testlab features a wide range of popular 3d printers:
These are of course only a starting point, but ColorFabb will work on just about every printer. If you are unsure, please contact us and we'll be sure to figure it out for you.
ColorFabb filament is very easy to print with. That said, there are some things you'll want to keep in mind. First off, the recommended print temperature is 195-220°C. A good rule of thumb is to go 5° hotter than you would with normal PLA. The recommended print speed for ColorFabb PLA is 40-100 mm/s. Also, we advise using a heated bed, as this will help avoid any unsightly warping. However it is not necessary, and PLA/PHA was designed to minimize any warping. If you are using a cold or unheated bed, apply blue tape or masking tape to the print bed. A glue stick works well too. Another great option is to use Kapton Tape, which we sell right here at Printer Playground.
